How is your baby growing?

At 13 weeks of pregnancy, you have reached the second trimester. Your baby's organs are already fully formed, but they still need to develop their full functionality. The vocal cords are beginning to develop in your baby's larynx and the bones are starting to harden, so you can already see the ribs, legs, and pelvic bones. The arms are already in proportion to the body, while the legs are still closer together. From the 13th week of pregnancy, your baby can swallow and its chest rises and falls as if it were breathing. These 'breathing movements' are important for lung development.

How is your belly growing?

'Finally,' in the 13th week of pregnancy, a small belly begins to show. Are you happy?
If you have coped well with your pregnancy so far and have not suffered much from nausea, you have probably gained about three kilograms. But maybe you have lost a little weight? This is not unusual.
Regardless of how your weight has changed, from now on your energy needs are increased. You should consume about 300 more calories per day than you have been.
How many calories are 300? An extra sandwich with cheese or sausage, nothing more ;-) In addition to calories, you now have increased needs for vitamins and minerals. You should pay particular attention to iodine and folic acid.
Here you will find delicious ideas for an extra 300 calories. Link to nutrition during pregnancy (recipes)

In addition to your small belly, your breasts have certainly grown as well. If you feel uncomfortable tension and may have already started to secrete a little milk, you can use soft nursing pads, quark cheese packs, or ice packs. When cooling your breasts, it is important to avoid sensitive nipples.

What makes you grow as a family?

If you are working, the 13th week of pregnancy is a good time to inform your employer about your pregnancy. Although there is no set, legal date, once you announce your pregnancy, you will enjoy various 'maternity privileges.' These are defined in the Maternity Act. In this guide to maternity protection from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. protection against dismissal, leave before and after childbirth (maternity protection), and adequate rest breaks. In addition, your employer is obliged to ensure that you can work without risk.
