How is your baby growing?

From the 23rd week of pregnancy, your baby's skin is covered with what is known as vernix. This oily layer is a protective cream for your baby, keeping its skin soft in the amniotic fluid and later, at birth, serving as a kind of lubricating cream.

Otherwise, your baby continues to grow, gaining little chubby rolls and opening and closing its eyes from time to time.

How is your belly growing?

By now, you have gained an average of five to seven kilograms. If you have gained more or less weight, there is no problem, as long as you feel well. In particular, your blood volume has increased by about 50%. This is why you may feel dizzy from time to time, as your blood circulation has to work hard to pump blood from your legs upwards. Since your baby's blood circulation is independent of yours, your baby is not at risk. However, from now on you should get into the habit of raising your legs when sitting or lying down to relieve the blood circulation.

Your uterus is now pressing more strongly on your pelvis and may be obstructing blood flow. In addition, your connective tissue is relaxing further. Both of these factors can lead to the formation of hemorrhoids at the exit of the intestine.

Read here what you can do about these classic pregnancy discomforts.

What makes you grow as a family?

During the day, you probably carry your belly with pride and it doesn't bother you yet. However, this may change when you lie down. With the onset of the last trimester of pregnancy, it is recommended to sleep on your side. It is best to lie on your left side so that there is no pressure on the vena cava. A side sleeping pillow can help you in this potentially new sleeping position.
