Now he's trying and liking sweets

How is your baby growing?

Now, at 24 weeks of pregnancy, your baby's taste buds are fully developed. This means that your baby can now taste different flavors and perceive what you have eaten through the amniotic fluid. Sweets are at the top of their list of favorites – as is the case with all children ;-)

Your baby's bones are now so strong that they can stand upright in your belly. However, their lungs still need to mature further.

If your baby were born now, it would have about a 60% chance of survival.

How is your belly growing?

At 24 weeks of pregnancy, your uterus is about the size of a handball and has risen to the height of your navel. Your ligaments have to bear a lot of weight and you may feel intense pulling and pain in your belly. To deal with this, sit or lie down often. This will relieve the ligaments.

Between the 24th and 27th week of pregnancy, tests are carried out for possible Rhesus incompatibility and gestational diabetes so that your gynecologist can monitor you closely if there are any indications of these conditions. You can find important information about gestational diabetes here.

Your body changes due to pregnancy hormones – unfortunately not only in a positive way. One 'side effect' is fluid retention. At the latest in the last four weeks before giving birth, almost all expectant mothers retain fluid. You may be affected by this earlier. Support stockings, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding tight clothing are good remedies. You can find more information about this in our guide.

Continue to care for your body with love, because it is doing something wonderful.

Or as mom Christine writes:

Your body will change a lot and you may feel more and more like a stranger to yourself: But your body is doing something very important, something you can be very proud of.

What makes you grow as a family?

Your baby still has enough space to exercise in your belly, so you can feel your baby's kicks through your abdominal wall – how exciting! Now you can both touch your baby. Because your baby can already hear, talk to them. They will remember your voices.
